Neighbors near a Louisville, Kentucky, factory have reported strange odors for years prior to a recent explosion that killed two workers and injured eleven others at Givaudan Sense Colour, a company that produces food colorings. Witnesses described various smells, ranging from ammonia to burnt sugar, causing local residents to express safety concerns. The explosion resulted in significant damage, including the partial collapse of the building, and has led to an investigation by local, state, and federal authorities to determine the cause. Givaudan, which acquired the factory in 2021, is cooperating with the investigation following a history of pollution-related issues at the site.
