The city of Pittsburgh has proposed a $500,000 settlement to resolve lawsuits related to the Forbes Avenue bridge collapse that occurred on January 28, 2022. The payment is intended to cover the injuries sustained by individuals in vehicles that plummeted approximately 100 feet into Fern Hollow Creek when the bridge fell. City officials acknowledged federal investigators’ findings of inadequate maintenance and lack of response to inspection reports, which led to the bridge’s deterioration. The proposed settlement awaits approval from the Pittsburgh City Council and the overseeing judge; however, litigation against three engineering firms involved in the case will continue.
