US Secures Nearly $102 Million Settlement Over Baltimore Bridge Collapse

A settlement of approximately $102 million has been reached between the U.S. government and the Singaporean companies that owned and operated the cargo ship Dali, which caused the collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge in March. The settlement, agreed upon by Grace Ocean Private Ltd. and Synergy Marine Private Ltd., resolves civil claims under various maritime laws and ensures the costs of the cleanup are borne by the companies instead of U.S. taxpayers. The January incident resulted in the loss of six lives and significant disruption to shipping and local infrastructure, with the U.S. Department of Justice stating the funds would support federal agencies involved in the response. Though this settlement compensates for response costs, it does not cover the reconstruction expenses for the bridge, which are expected to amount to about $1.9 billion.
