On December 18, 2024, the Afyonkarahisar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ATSO) hosted a panel titled “Expectations of the Business World from the Insurance Sector and from the Business World by the Insurance Sector.” The event attracted significant participation, including Afyonkarahisar Deputy Mayor Cem Kasapoğlu, ESOB President Cengiz Üstün, AFSİAD Chairman Kadir Sayın, MÜSİAD Vice Chairman Şükrü Aygün, and representatives from various industry organizations.
Opening the panel, ATSO President Hüsnü Serteser warmly welcomed attendees and emphasized the increasing risks associated with maintaining commercial activities in a competitive market. He highlighted the crucial role of the insurance sector in mitigating these risks, pointing out that many businesses still underutilize insurance products. According to a 2023 survey conducted by TOBB, 51% of industrial companies had not renewed their insurance policies. The devastating consequences of insufficient insurance became starkly evident following the February 6 earthquake, leading to significant financial burdens for many industries.
Serteser stressed the importance of insurance agents as foundational elements of the sector, advocating for their rightful place in an equitable operating environment. He remarked on the necessity of enhancing insurance literacy and effective risk management among business owners, asserting that insurance is not merely a safety net but an integral part of business operations.
The panel, moderated by ATSO Council Member Bekir Özerdem, focused on the industry’s challenges, the enhancement of insurance awareness, and the strengthening of relationships between the business world and the insurance sector. The discussion concluded with a Q&A session and a group photo, followed by a courtesy visit to ATSO President Hüsnü Serteser by the panelists.
