Türk Loydu Announces ISM/ISPS Internal Auditor Training

Türk Loydu announced its Internal Auditor Training under the ISM and ISPS codes in late November 2024. According to the announcement, the training was held in person on 10-12 December 2024 at Türk Loydu's centre in Tuzla, Istanbul.

The training, open to general participation, was said to be planned to meet one of the criteria for Designated Person Ashore (DPA). The programme aimed to give participants in-depth knowledge of maritime safety and security standards.

The announcement said the number of places was limited and that the application form needed to be completed on Türk Loydu's website by 16:00 on Tuesday, 3 December 2024 at the latest; the email address egitim@turkloydu.org was given for further information.

What do the ISM and ISPS codes regulate?

The ISM Code (International Safety Management Code) is the international regulation that requires ships and their operators to establish safety management systems; the ISPS Code (International Ship and Port Facility Security Code) sets rules on protecting ships and port facilities against security threats. Both codes are in force under the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and shipping companies are required to review these systems regularly through internal audits. Internal auditor training gives company personnel the competence to carry out these audits.

The DPA is the shore-based designated person that the ISM Code requires companies to appoint, forming a bridge between the ship and senior management; completing internal auditor training is one of the criteria sought for this role.

Alongside classification and certification services, Türk Loydu regularly offers this kind of training for the shipping sector through its training centre; the same training was also included in the programme in later periods.
