The Archdiocese of New York has filed a lawsuit against Chubb Ltd., claiming the insurer has violated state law by denying coverage for sexual abuse claims. Cardinal Timothy Dolan highlighted that despite the archdiocese having paid over $2 billion in premiums, Chubb is trying to sidestep its obligations. The lawsuit comes amid the archdiocese’s struggle with over 1,400 unresolved claims related to sexual abuse, some dating back to World War II. Chubb has countered the claims, accusing the archdiocese of concealing its knowledge of abuse and its assets, labeling the lawsuit as a tactic to shift responsibility.
