The civil unrest in New Caledonia has prompted calls for travel insurance among New Zealanders. Those currently in New Caledonia or planning to go there are advised to immediately contact their travel insurance providers. Insurance and Financial Services Ombudsman Karen Stevens mentioned that she expects numerous calls from concerned travelers. Stevens emphasized that those traveling to New Caledonia without travel insurance will not be covered for cancellations due to the unrest, urging all travelers to purchase travel insurance when they book their tickets. Current travel advisories can be found on the Safe Travel website, and New Zealanders in New Caledonia are advised to avoid all protests and demonstrations.
