In a significant policy shift effective September 15, Barbados police will respond only to traffic accidents resulting in death or serious injuries. Attorney General Dale Marshall stated this change aims to free up police resources, as officers currently spend excessive time on minor incidents. The General Insurance Association of Barbados supports the move, noting that most accidents are settled without police involvement, and insurance agents are now trained to manage these situations. However, concerns have been raised regarding the impartiality of insurance agents in accident investigations, with calls for an independent body to oversee such cases.
