A Miami insurance agent, Heleonel Gonzalez, has pleaded guilty to defrauding Peach State Federal Credit Union by securing $6 million in loans intended for condominium associations’ insurance financing and misappropriating the funds for personal expenses. Over the course of at least 20 transactions, Gonzalez falsely claimed his clients authorized him to obtain loans that were supposed to cover property insurance premiums. Instead, he used the funds to clear personal debts and other expenses. Gonzalez faces a possible 30-year prison sentence alongside a $1 million fine, with federal authorities continuing to investigate the involvement of other parties in the scheme.
