Construction crews in Opelousas are renovating an old insurance building, which will now store 8,000 square feet of parish court records dating back to the 1800s. Clerk of Court Charles Jagneaux, who purchased the building two years ago, is converting it into an election center while preserving court documents of historical significance. The arrangement concerning who will cover the costs for modifications has sparked discussions among parish officials, as the St. Landry Parish Government maintains that it is not responsible for the records’ storage. Jagneaux expressed optimism that a mutual agreement can be reached regarding the financial responsibilities.
