OSHA Reports 11% Drop in Worker Death Investigations for FY 2024

Latest News

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) reported a decline in the number of worker fatalities investigated in fiscal year 2024, with 826 deaths compared to 928 the previous year—an 11% decrease. This figure marks the lowest number of deaths OSHA has investigated since FY 2017, excluding Covid-related fatalities. Significant reductions in deaths were noted in construction-related incidents, particularly from falls and trench collapses, attributed to enhanced enforcement and collaboration initiatives. However, OSHA emphasizes that over 5,000 workers still perish each year in preventable incidents, indicating that further efforts are necessary to improve workplace safety culture.
