Two tax attorneys and an insurance agent were sentenced to prison for their roles in a scheme that defrauded the IRS of over $22 million. Michael Elliot Kohn and Catherine Elizabeth Chollet, along with insurance agent David Shane Simmons, promoted a fraudulent strategy to conceal client income by inflating business expenses through fictitious fees. The court found that the defendants engaged in extensive misconduct from 2011 to 2022, including filing false tax returns that resulted in significant losses for the government. Kohn received a seven-year sentence, Chollet four years, and Simmons five years, along with restitution payments totaling $22.5 million.
