Volkswagen is recalling over 307,000 vehicles in North America due to a potential wiring fault that may deactivate front passenger airbags when the seat is occupied. The recall affects 271,000 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs in the US and 36,000 in Canada, with owners advised to avoid using the front passenger seat until the repair is done. Volkswagen will replace the passenger occupant detection system sensor mat and wiring harness with improved parts free of charge. The recall is the second by VW over the issue, with the automaker meeting with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to discuss the differences between production periods.
