2026 Motor Insurance Limits: Cover Hits 400,000 TL
SEDDK raised motor third-party liability cover limits 33% from 1 January 2026: property damage cover reached 400,000 TL and death cover 3.6 million TL.

Türkiye's 2026 compulsory motor third-party liability insurance regulations were finalized with publication in the Official Gazette. In the new year, the property damage limit covered by the insurance in the event of an accident was raised to 400,000 TL for cars, while the death benefit was raised to 3.6 million TL. For taxi and minibus owners, however, there is bad news on discount rates.
Under a regulation by SEDDK (Türkiye's insurance and pension regulator), motor third-party liability insurance cover limits were raised by 33%, effective from 1 January 2026. The increase ensures higher compensation for accident victims, but it has also created an expectation of higher 2026 policy prices due to the greater risk assumed by insurers.
2026 cover limits compared with 2025
Acentehaber compiled the new cover limits that closely concern vehicle owners:
| Vehicle and cover type | 2025 limit (old) | 2026 limit (new) |
|---|---|---|
| Car – property damage (per vehicle) | 300,000 TL | 400,000 TL |
| Car – disability/death (per person) | 2,700,000 TL | 3,600,000 TL |
| Minibus (10-17 seats) – death cover | 6,075,000 TL | 8,080,000 TL |
| Bus (18-30 seats) – death cover | 15,795,000 TL | 21,008,000 TL |
| Bus (31+ seats) – death cover | 31,590,000 TL | 42,015,000 TL |
A "hidden hike" for taxi and minibus drivers: discounts cut
The most notable item in the new regulation was a change to the tier system in the Risky Insured Pool. In particular for taxi, minibus and bus groups, the 40% discount applied at tier 7, where claims-free drivers sit, was cut to 30% as of 2026.
This change means that even commercial vehicle owners with no accident history will pay a higher premium on their policies in the new year.
Cover for standing passengers exceeds 10 million TL
For vehicles used in urban public transport that are licensed to carry standing passengers, the per-accident cover limit for standing passengers was also raised, to 10,003,000 TL.
Compulsory motor third-party liability insurance is legally mandatory for all motor vehicle owners and covers bodily injury and material damage caused to the other party in an accident, within the policy limits. Cover limits are updated by SEDDK every year; raising the limits reduces the portion of victims' losses in serious accidents that falls outside insurance cover.
