A local Cleveland business, Happy Dog, has had its insurance claim for nearly $45,000 denied following a significant power outage that affected Northeast Ohio. Co-owner Sean Watterson reported losses due to spoiled food and a week’s worth of business disruption caused by storms. The insurance company, Mesa Underwriters Specialty Insurance, claims the lack of physical storm damage invalidated the claim, leaving Watterson questioning the fairness after 16 years of consistent payments. He noted that the financial strain could have led to the restaurant’s closure if not for a grant from the National Independent Vendor’s Association that helped alleviate some immediate needs.
