Firefighters in northern Portugal continue to fight wildfires in the Aveiro region for the fourth consecutive day, responding to heightened temperatures that contributed to the crisis. Approximately 4,000 firefighters and 22 aircraft are involved in combating the flames, with the government declaring a “situation of calamity” in affected municipalities due to the scale of destruction. Four firefighters have lost their lives since the onset of the fires, and access to certain highways remains restricted. The Portuguese government is working to provide accommodation for those displaced by the fires while cooler weather is expected soon.
