Levent Korkut, President of the Insurance and Reinsurance Committee (SAİK), participated in the Disaster Insurance Meeting held by the İzmir Chamber of Commerce on September 11, 2024. The event, which featured opening remarks from İzmir Chamber of Commerce Vice President Emre Kızılgüneşler and TOBB Vice President Ender Yorgancılar, centered around the transition from “Mandatory Earthquake Insurance” to “Mandatory Disaster Insurance.”
Following the opening speeches, a panel moderated by TOBB Insurance Department Manager Mevlüt Söylemez included prominent figures such as Korkut, TOBB Insurance Agents Executive Committee Chairman Ahmet Nedim Erdem, Turkish Insurance, Reinsurance and Pension Companies Association Vice Chairman Ahmet Yaşar, and DASK Coordinator and Turkish Reinsurance Co. Deputy General Manager Erdal Turgut. Attendance was robust, with key representatives from various sectors, including TOBB General Secretary Assistant Cengiz Delibaş, SAİK Vice Chairpersons, insurance adjusters, and several academics.
During the discussions, Korkut underscored the crucial role of insurance agents in presenting disaster insurance and managing claims processes. He provided insights into initiatives aimed at increasing disaster insurance penetration and preventing erroneous policy issuance. Korkut also shared his perspectives on the potential impacts of transitioning to Mandatory Disaster Insurance on the insurance market.
