Ahmet Nedim Erdem, President of the TOBB Insurance Committee (SEİK), participated in the Disaster Insurance Meeting held by the İzmir Chamber of Commerce on September 11, 2024. The event commenced with opening remarks from Emre Kızılgüneşler, Vice President of the İzmir Chamber of Commerce, and Ender Yorgancılar, Vice President of the Association of Turkish Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB). The discussion centered on the transformation project from “Mandatory Earthquake Insurance” to “Mandatory Disaster Insurance.”

The panel, moderated by Mevlüt Söylemez, Director of TOBB Insurance, included notable speakers such as Ahmet Nedim Erdem, Levent Korkut (President of the TOBB Insurance Agents Committee), Ahmet Yaşar (Vice President of the Turkish Insurance, Reinsurance and Pension Companies Association), and Erdal Turgut (Coordinator of the Natural Disaster Insurance Pool – DASK and Deputy General Manager of Turkish Reinsurance A.Ş.). The meeting attracted significant participation from TOBB Assistant Secretary General Cengiz Delibaş, SEİK members, and representatives from various sectors including insurance agents, experts, and academics.

Erdem emphasized the critical role of expert assessment in the compensation process following disasters. He provided insights into how the transition to Mandatory Disaster Insurance would impact these expertise processes and discussed efforts by TOBB SEİK related to the regulatory drafts for both Mandatory Disaster Insurance and Optional Fire Insurance.
