Turkey’s Interior Ministry has issued a strong warning against consultancy firms related to vehicle accidents, particularly those involved in damage assessment and accident tracking services. The directive, signed by Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, was disseminated to the 81 provincial governors, the General Directorate of Security, and the Gendarmerie Command.
The ministry pointed out that many individuals and companies have been unlawfully acquiring personal data, such as phone numbers of citizens involved in traffic accidents, from relevant public and private institutions immediately following incidents. This unethical practice often leads to unsolicited phone calls, further complicating the already distressing situations faced by the victims and their families.
To safeguard personal privacy and prevent potential victimization, the ministry emphasized the necessity of measures to protect individuals’ fundamental rights and freedoms post-accident. This directive underscores the government’s commitment to tackling the misuse of personal data and ensuring that citizens are shielded from exploitation during vulnerable times.
