GM Battery Plant Workers in Tennessee Secure Major Pay Hike After Joining UAW

Latest News

Approximately 1,000 workers at the General Motors and LG Energy Solution joint venture electric vehicle battery plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee, are set to receive substantial pay increases following their decision to join the United Auto Workers (UAW) union. The union’s recognition followed a majority decision by workers to unionize, leading to a minimum starting wage increase from $20 to $27.72 per hour, with further increases expected over the next three years. This development marks a significant gain for the UAW as it extends its influence into southern states, similar to recent efforts at a Volkswagen assembly plant in Chattanooga. The Spring Hill facility is the second GM battery plant to unionize under the national contract established last fall, following a similar move in Ohio.
